The Finance Quadrant: Financial Overwhelm

The current trend shows that you will be over budget. What is causing this over-run?

“Where do you think your costs will be at the end of the month?”

John didn’t have the answers. But he promised to have them in time for next week’s meeting.

His team goes away and does the work. They look at the data. But it doesn’t make sense.

“I don’t know where these numbers have come from?”

So, they look at more data. Every number is scrutinised. But no matter how hard they try, it still doesn’t make sense.

“My numbers are different to your numbers”

Unfortunately, this leads to Financial overwhelm. Without an understanding of what filters to apply to the data, you are not able to convert data into information you can use. And just like the spin cycle on a washing machine, you continue to “spin” the numbers looking for an answer.

One sporting stat

The Netherlands stunned South Africa in the 50-over Cricket World Cup this week. Their win was a historic one - their first against a test playing nation in the 50-over format of the World Cup. Not bad for a country with only 5,000 cricketers.
